Experience that protects your property
With 15 years in landscaping and licences to operate an excavator and skid steer, tricky sites are handled correctly. That experience is what helps keep a big job on track.
An honest second opinion
Phil will respectfully challenge a plant or layout choice that may not suit the space, and explain why. It is hands-on experience put to work for you, and clients regularly thank him for it.
ABOUT THE SERVICE
With garden renovations on the Mornington Peninsula, the person estimating your job is the person running it, and that is the heart of how Phillip Louk Landscaping works. Phil brings soft and hard landscaping together under one roof, so your whole project is handled by one trade rather than juggled across several.
What a garden renovation with Phillip Louk Landscaping involves
A renovation can be a full garden overhaul or a simpler, quicker refresh. The scope flexes to your budget and your goal, from completely reworking a large area to revitalising a single tired corner. Because Phil covers both soft and hard landscaping, one team handles planting and plant selection, turf, paving, stonework, edging, irrigation and outdoor entertaining areas.
Full makeover or a simple refresh?
Not every garden needs to be torn up and started again. A full garden makeover transforms a larger space top to bottom, reshaping the layout, the planting and the hard surfaces into something new. A refresh is lighter: revitalising a small space or a single section of an existing garden to lift it without the cost of starting over. Telling us which option you are after helps us to estimate the job accurately.
Looking At Garden edging as part of your renovation?
Edging is the detail that holds a garden together. It keeps a clean line between beds, lawn and paths, helps hold mulch and soil in place, and can make the ongoing upkeep easier. Phil supplies and installs edging in steel, including Corten, as well as timber, stone and brick, matched to the style of the rest of the garden. Set at the right level and installed well, edging can also help reduce the weeds that creep in along bed lines.
When is the right time for a garden renovation?
Most people reach out at one of a few moments: when an overgrown garden has become too much to manage, when they want a lower upkeep space to enjoy rather than maintain, when a dated garden needs bringing back to life, or when a new home or renovation has left the outdoors as the last piece of the puzzle. Any of these is a good reason to start, and a low maintenance garden is often the practical answer for busy households.
Working through your ideas on site
Design here is hands-on and collaborative. During your free estimate, Phil will work with you to shape your ideas and scope out your project, taking measurements, photos and videos of the space. He is also happy to work alongside a designer or architect you have engaged.
Plant selection is where a lot of gardens quietly come unstuck. We are seeing more DIY and AI generated concepts that do not account for how plants actually behave in a real garden. Overcrowd a bed or pick the wrong species and the planting can struggle. Phil will talk through choices with you, matching the plants to your space and the look you are chasing, from native and coastal planting through to a relaxed space made for entertaining.
Once the scope is agreed, you can leave the landscaping with Phil, from the groundwork through to the final planting, with a plant establishment period available so your new garden gets a good start.

Garden Renovations on the Mornington Peninsula: Local Knowledge & Expertise
The Mornington Peninsula is not one kind of garden. It runs from exposed beachside blocks near the bay to established inland gardens around Mount Eliza and Mount Martha, out to rural acreage in the hills near Red Hill. Phillip Louk Landscaping is a genuinely local, family owned operator working right across that spread, so any garden transformation starts from real local experience rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
A few things that shape a renovation on the Peninsula specifically:
- Gardens closer to the water sit in more exposed positions, which is worth factoring into plant choice and materials.
- Ground conditions vary from block to block, even within the same suburb, so Phil works to what is in front of him rather than to a template.
- Hot, dry summers make low upkeep planting and irrigation a practical priority for plenty of households.
- Sloping and rural blocks often need levelling worked into the renovation before the planting can start.
- Newer estates sit houses much closer together, so plenty of jobs call for compact machinery. Where there is no machine access at all, the excavation is done by hand.
- A strong holiday-home and second-home market wants gardens that look good year round with minimal fuss between visits.
This is the local knowledge that keeps a project on track. Phil brings 15 years in the trade, and has been working across the Peninsula since 2020, which shapes the calls he makes on site. It is also why a garden makeover on the Mornington Peninsula is worth handing to someone who works here every week.
The Process
Get in touch
Reach out by phone, text, email or the enquiry form. Phil comes back to you to run through the job and get a feel for what you are after.
Free site visit
Phil comes out to take measurements, photos and video, and to understand exactly what needs estimating. This is also where he works through your ideas with you on site.
Your estimate
A written estimate setting out the works follows, and we aim to have it with you within 48 business hours of Phil visiting your property, with a follow-up shortly after. That turnaround runs from the visit, it is not a promise to attend within that time.
Acceptance and deposit
You accept by email whenever you are ready. A 5% deposit invoice is issued and your dates are locked into the calendar.
Reminder before we start
A courtesy reminder by text or call goes out 24 to 48 business hours before works commence, so nothing catches you off guard.
Works commence
Work gets underway with constant communication throughout, so you always know where things are at. Invoicing is staged to suit the size of the job: shorter jobs are simply settled on completion, and longer ones are invoiced in progress payments as the work moves along. Either way, nothing lands without you knowing it is coming.
Walkthrough and handover
On the final day of the job, if you are available, Phil walks through the finished garden with you to make sure you are happy with everything, then the final invoice is sent for the balance on completion of works.

Frequently Asked Questions About Garden Renovations on the Mornington Peninsula
How long does a garden renovation take?
It depends entirely on the scope of the work. A small refresh can be quick, while a full overhaul of a larger area takes considerably longer. Lead times also shift with the season and demand: in winter we can sometimes start within a couple of weeks, whereas summer tends to book out two to three months ahead. The best way to get an accurate timeframe is a free site visit.
Do you do smaller refreshes, or only full renovations?
Both. Some clients want a complete transformation of a larger area, and others just want a single section or a tired corner revitalised to suit their budget. There is no minimum grand vision required. Tell us what you are hoping to achieve and we will scope it to fit.
Do I need to have everything worked out before I call?
No. Most clients arrive with a rough idea. During your free estimate, Phil will work with you to shape your ideas and scope out your project, taking measurements, photos and videos of the space. He is also happy to work alongside a designer or architect you have engaged if you have one.
What is included in a garden renovation estimate?
Every estimate is customised to your specific job and sets out the works to be carried out, so you know what you are paying for. The site visit is free, and your written estimate follows, and we aim to have it to you within 48 business hours, based on the real conditions of your garden rather than a guess from photos. There is no obligation to proceed once you have it.
How much does a garden renovation cost?
Every garden is different, so there is no flat price. Cost is driven by the scope of the work, the materials you choose and the conditions on your site, such as access and slope. After a free site visit, you receive a clear written estimate for your job rather than a vague ballpark.
Do you offer ongoing maintenance after the renovation?
Yes. Ongoing maintenance is available to clients whose landscaping was completed by us, and we also offer a plant establishment period to help your new garden settle in. It is a practical way to protect the investment you have just made. Just let Phil know and it can be scoped into the job.
Do you install garden edging?
Yes, if you want it. Edging is not part of every renovation, it is included when it suits the garden and you decide you want it, and it is set out in your estimate like everything else. Phil supplies and installs edging in steel, including Corten, timber or stone to suit your garden style. If you already know which product you are after, that helps estimate the job accurately, and if you are not sure he will talk through the options during the site visit. Installed correctly, edging can help reduce the weeds that creep into garden beds so they do make a great addition to your overall garden makeover.
Will I deal with Phil directly?
Yes. Phil runs through the job with you, completes the site visit, estimates it and oversees the standard from start to finish. Where a specialist trade is needed on part of the job, he arranges it and tells you up front, so you always know who is on your property and why.
What areas do you service?
The business is based in Hastings and works right across the Mornington Peninsula, from the coastal suburbs through to the inland and rural blocks. Phil also travels regularly to Bass Coast and Western Port, the south east suburbs of Melbourne and Bayside. If your suburb is not listed, just ask.
What goes wrong when a garden renovation is done by the wrong person?
Inexperienced or unqualified trades can damage your property and make poor calls on tricky sites, from drainage issues to plants that never establish. An experienced, trade qualified landscaper knows how to navigate the situations that catch DIYers and cheaper operators out. Clear communication throughout the job is just as important as the skills, and it is what keeps a renovation on track from start to finish.
How far ahead are you booked?
It varies with the season and demand, with summer being the busiest stretch. Because of that, early enquiry is encouraged, especially if you are hoping to have a new garden ready for the warmer months. Getting your free estimate in sooner rather than later gives you the best chance of the dates you want.
